To be honest, I agree that PMS sometimes is one of the main factors that affects our mood once in a month.Which is completely horrible.During this period of time, this ladies tend to hate their peers..and even their own family memebers.It’ll definitely add more to our sins.
But im sure that we can still control it.
But im sure that we can still control it.
Remember that the strongest among us is the one who is able to control his/her temper.
So here are some of the informations that I've learnt about PMS.
Definitons
Occurance of cyclical somatic , psychological, and emotional symptoms that oocur in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle and resolve by the time menstruation ceases.
Incidence
Prementrual symptoms occur in almost all women of reproductive age, but only 5% of the symptoms are sufficiently severe to cause significant problems.
Aetiology
The aetiology is unknown ,however possible aetiology maybe :
- Progesterone released in luteal phase may lead to decrease of GABA which is inhibitor to the brain.
- Low serotonin level in the brain.
Clinical features
The symptoms of PMS may include any of the following :
- Bloating
- Cyclic weight gain, edema
- Mastalgia (pain on muscle)
- Fatigue
- Abdominal cramps
- Headache (migraine)
- Insomnia , aggression , irritability , and depression
- Food craving
Differential diagnosis
PMS should be distinguished from any underlying psychiatric disorders (cyclic pattern of PMS is the cornerstone of the diagnosis)
Treatment
The following therapies have been shown to have some efficacy in the treatment of PMS
- Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs as fluoxetine significantly improve PMS.
- Diuretics may be helpful in the treatment of bloating and breast tenderness.
- NSAIDs may improve physical symptoms.
- Combined oral contraceptive pills may improve PMS by suppression of ovulation.
